Role: Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes:
- Ability to transform into a black cat
- Ability to transform into a panther

Role Reasoning:
Although Nana is generally considered the heroine of her canon, she does have a lot of questionable motivations behind her actions, the way she treats and interacts with others, and can be viewed as both a bad person or a good person depending on the perspective of the reader. Due to early childhood trauma involving parental abandonment, and a combination of how she presents herself, she often found it difficult to associate or get close to anyone until Nobuo Terashima made an effort to reach out to her. As such, every new person that came into her life from that point, Nana felt a strong sense of entitlement and possession over. This is to the point where she won't reject new interactions from strangers and may even be open to being friends with them, but she had an enormous difficulty opening up about herself and letting people in, especially with the events that have unfolded at the end of the series.
Despite being the lead singer of her band, I feel personally this role fits her best because it would allow her to be herself the most. She absolutely will help Legends and be open to being a listening ear, but she also isn't as emotionally driven to be a legend- she is selfish, emotional, possessive, and dominating over others she cares deeply about. She also isn't evil enough to be a Myth- she does show an interest in being a better friend, being more supportive, and open to people like Hachi. While she is exceptional in her own right as someone who had goals and achieved them through any and all means possible, Nana also hasn't fully grown as a person and falls into bad habits and traits such as getting back together with Ren (despite the relationship becoming toxic), openly telling Nobu to get Hachi back from Takumi regardless of his feelings, for her sake, and having panic attacks when she feels like she is losing control over those she feels possessive over. She still has a lot of growing to do and she is currently at a place where she is better off supporting others.

( it had been several months since nana had arrived to this world and while she wasn't amused at the fact that even here she couldn't escape her association with black cats, she was coming to terms with what it meant to be away from her home. it seemed the fox had pulled her at the most difficult point in her life, where everything seemed to be falling apart. hachi had announced she was pregnant and leaving their shared apartment, yasu and nobu were suddenly all dating women associated with their label [and they seemed to dislike how close nana was to them], ren had passed away shortly after asking nana to marry him, and shin had been arrested for drug possession, putting their band at risk. truthfully, nana felt like she was falling apart and the only thing that seemed to keep her sane was hachi finally coming back and spending time with her to help her with her grief.
but before things could truly start falling back into place and her heart could fully heal, she was brought in here like a shooting star falling from the sky. she was used to new circumstances and adapting, that wasn't the issue. she just felt so lonely here despite people reaching out to her and nana trying her best to form bonds with all these new people. they didn't know her, her pain, or the reality of what she had just gone through. it was so difficult to open up and tell anyone about what she was truly feeling and thinking, opting instead to be viewed as the local punk rocker who was a little more than intimidating but surprisingly nice. it was a label she was used to owning, and honestly as long as they weren't calling her a prostitute like she was called during her teen years, it was good enough.
still, it was difficult to fight back the big emotions that often dwelled inside of nana. firstly, she missed ren even if she felt like they had barely been dating ever since their initial reunion. she had told him many years ago that if either of them died, the other one was taking them with them. that she wanted to reincarnate as a goldfish, swimming in the same bowl as him and yet that obsession seemed to fade by the time they got to this point. it felt more like she had been clinging onto the idea of the love they held as teenagers. now, in the real world, where she saw others here have healthier relationships than she one she had, it seemed all so insignificant. was it even true love? the time she had here seemed to force her to dwell deep within her mind and be forced to confront uncomfortable truths.
secondly, she missed her, her roommate, first female best friend, and most of all, the person she had come to view as her possession [and immediately called herself out about it when she realized how horrible she sounded thinking that]. they had only lived together for six months, but it was almost fate how they came to find each other in life and actually got along. they were both named nana, riding a train to tokyo at midnight, and both moved into the same apartment, 707.
it was difficult for her to talk about herself with hachi, but she felt for once a sense to be there for someone. she felt like being a better person for her sake, and yet here she was without her. the impact this love-struck puppy like woman had on nana was incredible. she had never had a healthy relationship with any woman in her life and yet, this was healing.
so it was distressing being here, having to interact with others to get by and form new bonds. if she got too close, would they too be taken away from her? would they learn about who she was deep inside and abandon her like her mother had all those years ago? another thing that troubled her was what exactly was going on back home? was she reaching her full potential there, would she even find that here? still, nana had decided that among the fears she had that drove her into panic attacks and a sense of keeping herself protected, she would try. she had done that when she met nana komatsu, and she could do that here too right? she couldn't cling onto her dark and warped ways forever. others surely had their own struggles and yet they had opened up to her. perhaps it was time for a change. )
